I had the pleasure of visiting the world's center of gravity for AI this autumn. Though self-driving cars were driving up and down the hilly streets, there were not many external indicators that I was in the AI capital, San Francisco. We were going to visit OpenAI and Anthropic, but there were literally no signs of these major companies. Had we not known the addresses, we would never have guessed what was inside the doors of the buildings housing these companies.
