ENACT (Ethical Risk Assessment of Artificial Intelligence in Practice) is a groundbreaking research project funded by the Norwegian Research Council (NFR). This collaborative initiative brings together leading academic institutions and industry partners to develop innovative tools and guidelines, ensuring the ethical use of artificial intelligence in digital solutions.
Over the next three years, a powerhouse consortium comprising leading academic institutions, public entities, and industry partners will join forces to craft a methodology aimed at managing ethical principles and guidelines. These guidelines will be tailored for both the public and private sectors in Norway, ensuring responsible deployment of AI-based systems. The ultimate goal is to empower Norwegian stakeholders to navigate ethical risks by enhancing their understanding of AI ethics through bespoke training programs, courses, and the translation of ethical principles into practical guidelines.
"ENACT is for EVERYONE. Developed and designed to meet the needs of ethical artificial intelligence for democratic, non-discriminatory societies. Artificial intelligence should be designed and developed to assist us with our processes, not to dictate them," emphasizes Hans Torvatn, Project Manager at SINTEF.
ENACT aims towards providing training in digital ethics at all levels, utilizing an innovative, interdisciplinary, and inclusive approach. The project is set to engage actively with developers, leaders, end-users, and students, fostering a shared understanding of the ethical risks and dilemmas associated with AI. The project was officially inaugurated in late August, marked by a gathering of the entire project team at Østfold University College's campus in Fredrikstad.
