Exchange Opportunities

International Exchanges

Looking to expand your international experience?

The NORA-Tech and NORA-HS Research Schools have established special agreements for student exchanges with Helmholtz Information and Data Science Academy (HIDA) in Germany, Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program – Humanity and Society (WASP-HS) in Sweden, and Pioneer Centre for Artificial Intelligence (P1) in Denmark (see links below). We offer financial support of up to 15,000 NOK/month for visits for up to three months to these partner institutions. As part of the Nordic AI Partnership, NORA is currently working on establishing exchange agreements with other Nordic partner institutions.

You may also apply for funding for visiting other suitable labs, but in the case of a high number of applications, we will prioritize visits to our partners.

Timeline

The four stages of the process: application - selection and notification - pre-exchange coordination - international exchange (1-3 months)

How to Apply

Step 1: Find a suitable lab

Look for a lab that fits your research background. If none of NORA's partner labs in Germany, Sweden, or Denmark is a suitable fit for your exchange, you are also welcome to identify a lab outside this list.

Step 2: Contact potential host and prepare the plan for your stay

Contact a potential host and discuss the possibility of a research stay of up to three months. If you plan to visit HIDA or WASP-HS, contact a PI from one of the research groups at the respective institution. If you plan to visit P1, contact the program director of a P1 project group. Once you have identified a potential host, use the attached document to prepare a plan for your research stay. The completed plan must be signed by you, your PhD supervisor, and the PI at the host institution.

Step 3: Inform NORA

Get in contact with NORA (a.p.seremak@nora.ai) to discuss your plans.

Step 4: Apply for the exchange by November 15th

Use the application form to apply for the financial support for your research exchange. Make sure to attach the plan for your stay using the template from Step 2.

Step 5: Review process

Applications are reviewed by a selection committee. You will be notified by December 15th via email about the decision of the committee.

Funding

NORA supports your stay financially with up to 15,000 NOK for accommodation and travel costs per month (flights, visa) for up to three months. The goal of the stipend is to help cover extra expenses related to traveling abroad for research stays. Specific contract and working conditions are to be discussed with your PI host and host institution.

For the awarding of grants, the following factors are taken into consideration: the applicant's motivation, quality and originality of the project, basic feasibility, and the applicant's independence in organizing the planned research stay.

Yes, you can apply several times in different calls.

What happens if I can’t travel?

Please get in contact with NORA about this.

I am not part of the NORA Research School, or my university is not a NORA member, can I still apply?
