On 1st and 2nd of November, NORA in collaboration with CLAIRE and Research Council of Norway, hosted more than 100 young researchers at the Nordic Young Researchers Symposium (NordicAIMEET). The main purpose of the conference was to provide a platform for young AI researchers to exchange ideas, build collaborations and form a Nordic approach for building AI solutions for the societal good.

BI Norwegian Business school and Simula Research Laboratory have decided to join forces to strengthen their expertise on data science through collaboration related to research and establishment of a new department and research center in data science. Earlier this year NORA became an RCN supported AI focused EU-network for Horizon Europe. The initiative, called NORA.EU, will help to mobilize and support researchers within the fields of AI, machine learning and robotics to come together in applications for Horizon Europe.
The consortium aims to strengthen research, education and innovation within artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotics.

By launching a new journal – Nordic Machine Intelligence (NMI) - NORA has reached another milestone in promoting and strengthening research and education within Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Robotics – this time with a Nordic focus.
If you haven’t heard it before, make sure to memorize the term Protein Folding! It is one of the great mysteries of life, and Artificial Intelligence just solved the problem – in what has been described as Artificial Intelligence’s greatest achievements to date. The tools used to solve this mystery are accessible to researchers, which will contribute to further new and important research and discoveries in this field. And NORA was first to hold a large-scale open event about the discovery with over 600 participants from around the world!

Since Christmas several extraordinary events have happened within the Norwegian AI society and NORA. Many excellent research, innovation and education results have been achieved. Especially, I want to congratulate AI-Mind and SFI Visual Intelligence! These large AI projects kicked off in 2021 and will surely be forming Norwegian AI the next years. I also want to mention that NORA has been expanded with four new partners, making the collaboration even stronger. NORA has also become a NFR supported AI EU network for Horizon Europe, NORA.startup has become an Innovation Norway supported innovation ecosystem for AI and we have expanded the secretariat with excellent people to support our partners and fulfill our mission. NORA and Norwegian AI have surely taken giant leaps the last months, and with these major upgrades we now refer to ourselves as NORA 2.0.

NORA’s expansion and the opportunities this entails will bring NORA even closer to fulfilling its vision of International relevance and excellence in AI research, education and innovation for Norwegian universities and research institutions.
NORA.startup has been recognised as an entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem by Innovation Norway! This is an important milestone for NORA.startup and will further strengthen NORA’s work towards supporting Norwegian startups specialising in developing solutions, products and services based on artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotics, with a high focus on research based innovation.
The very first CEDAS-conference (Center for Data Science at the University of Bergen) was held the 1st and 2nd of June both virtually and physically in Bergen.
