Norway Gets a New Arena for Cooperation on Artificial Intelligence
The Research Council of Norway has funded the establishment of a new, national arena for cooperation on artificial intelligence. The arena will strengthen the connection between research, industry and the public sector, and contribute to more Norwegian AI competence being put into practice.
The parties in this national cooperation, are NORA, Digital Norway, KI Norge and Sigma2. Norwegian AI research environments will be widely represented through NORA, NTNU and NHH, while Digital Norway and KI Norge be the connection to industry and the public sector. Sigma2 contributes with the national AI infrastructure and compute that makes advanced research and innovation possible.
In addition, Innovation Norway will contribute to the cooperation arena with tools for increasing reach, and therefore strengthening scaling, effect and usefulness - the goal is to bridge the gap between research and implementation.
Norway has strong research environments within artificial intelligence, and an increasing number of organisations want to start using this technology. The challenge is often to find relevant competence and the right partners. The cooperation arena will make it easier to connect research environments, industry and the public sector," says Liv Dingsør, CEO of Digital Norway.
The arena will highlight relevant research, coordinate activities across existing initiatives and create more specific links between researchers and user environments. Through digital platforms, events and targeted dissemination, the arena will contribute to more research results being put to use, more collaborations being established, and to Norway strengthening its ability to develop and use artificial intelligence.
The arena will initially focus on three things: Providing an overview of Norwegian AI research where companies and public institutions can find research relevant to them; coordinating events and dissemination across NORA, NTNU, Digital Norway, KI Norge and Sigma2, so that the right messages actually reaches the right recipients; and putting researchers and users directly in contact with each other.
A central principle is that the venture is based on arenas and investments that already exist. Instead of establishing new parallel structures, the arena will strengthen the collaboration between the actors that already make up the Norwegian AI ecosystem. We think the biggest reward lies in better connection between these environments," says Michael Solvang, CEO of NORA.

The goal is to put more Norwegian AI research to use, create value and contribute to increased innovation and competitiveness.
