A practical, interactive session for students ready to think differently about their career.

About the webinar

The job market is challenging right now. You could spend months applying for hundreds of jobs and still get no interviews — or you could take a more strategic approach: build your network, grow your skills, and make yourself highly desirable for the roles you really want.

This is the “start-up approach” to job hunting. In this interactive webinar, we’ll explore practical ways to identify exciting opportunities, stand out to employers, and improve your chances of making it into the “yes” pile for interview.

Please bring your questions, examples, and enthusiasm!

What we’ll cover

  • How to build and leverage your professional network
  • Ways to identify exciting opportunities before they appear on job boards
  • How to position yourself as a stand-out candidate
  • Practical strategies to improve your chances of making it to interview
  • Open Q&A — bring your own questions and examples

Andy holds a PhD in cancer research and has worked across a range of innovation and commercialisation roles, including venture capital consulting, innovation policy for the UK Research Councils, and founding the Innovation Programme at the Bristol Centre for Synthetic Biology, which helped create seven new companies.

Although he is not a careers counsellor, Andy has used the “start-up approach” throughout his own career transitions — often moving into new roles while writing very few, if any, formal job applications.
