Next Frontier AI is Coming to the Nordics!

3 Labs, 125 million euro funding, 1 billion euro perspective funding

Along with our colleagues in the Nordic AI Partnership (nordicpartnership.ai), we're supporting the Next Frontier AI Challenge, a pan-European initiative led by SPRIND - Bundesagentur für Sprunginnovationen (the German Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovation), together with France and the European Commission, aimed at establishing globally competitive European frontier AI labs.

The program is a 24-month challenge starting in July 2026, backed by €125M in non-dilutive funding. Up to ten teams will receive support to build frontier-lab capabilities (team, infrastructure, prototypes, evaluation, and pilots). The strongest teams will then receive structured support toward raising approximately €1B each to establish globally competitive European frontier AI labs.

We see this as a great opportunity for the Nordic region to mobilize its AI talent, expertise, and entrepreneurial capacity. Together with SPRIND - Bundesagentur für Sprunginnovationen , Nordic AI Partnership (nordicpartnership.ai), DIREC - Digital Research Centre Denmark, the DDSA - Danish Data Science Academy, AI Sweden, and other partners, we are working to identify and support strong Nordic teams to enter the challenge 💡

Those interested in getting involved - either in participating personally or identifying possible teams - can now register for the Ambassadors Meeting with SPRIND on 24 March, 15:30–17:00 CET (via Zoom):
