Meet the New NORA-HS Student Council Leader

"I am excited to introduce myself as the new Student Council Leader of NORA-HS," says Mattia Tamiazzo, PhD student at University of Agder.

Mattia Tamiazzo

My name is Mattia, and I come from Turin, in Piedmont. You may already know Piedmont for a few famous Italian icons, such as Nutella by Ferrero, Lavazza coffee, and FIAT. I love coffee and good food, and I drive a FIAT myself, so I guess I am a fairly good representative of my region!

I am a PhD candidate in a cotutelle program between the Department of Management and Innovation at the University of Agder and the Department of Management "Valter Cantino" at the University of Turin.

My research examines how artificial intelligence is transforming marketing, particularly how it creates value for multiple stakeholders. I am interested in how AI changes these stakeholders' roles, how they interact with one another, and the processes through which marketing activities are designed and experienced. This raises questions about how consumer preferences and evaluations are shaped, how firms can use AI to support consumers more effectively, and how responsibilities shift as AI takes on a larger part of the marketing process.

More broadly, I want to move beyond viewing AI as a simple technological tool. AI in marketing influences how value is created, communicated, and experienced. Understanding this shift requires attention both to what AI can do and to how its use reshapes the relationships between consumers, firms, marketers, and technology, with the opportunities and challenges this brings.

What I hope to do as Student Council Leader

I see this role as a chance to represent the student community and to make it more active, connected, and useful for PhD students at different career stages. During my term, I would like to focus on a few concrete initiatives.

First, I would like to introduce regular student research meetups, where PhD students can present work in progress, discuss ideas, or simply bring a question they are struggling with." - Mattia Tamiazzo

These sessions would be informal and centered on constructive discussion.

Second, I want to strengthen connections across institutions and research areas. NORA.ai brings together researchers working on very different aspects of AI, and the Student Council can help students discover work outside their own field!

Third, I plan to organize more social activities, whether a coffee meetup, a dinner, or a gathering during NORA.ai events; I want students to get to know each other beyond their research topics.

Finally, I want the Student Council to be a channel for students to share ideas, suggest activities, raise issues, and give feedback on the PhD experience.

My aim is to work with and for PhD students to identify what would actually be useful to them.

As I am about to enter the third and final year of my PhD, I am also thinking more and more about what comes next. I would therefore like to explore how NORA.ai HS can help PhD students navigate the transition to the next stage of their careers.

In particular, we could make better use of NORA.ai's existing connections with research communities and institutions in different countries to find postdoctoral positions and research collaborations. These international ties can help students identify potential collaborators, learn about different research environments, and build longer-term academic relationships.

Relatedly, I would like to look into research funding and joint applications. Many funding schemes encourage or require international and multidisciplinary teams, and NORA.ai offers a strong basis for finding partners and developing ideas across institutions.

I look forward to meeting many of you, learning about your research, and developing these initiatives together.

If you have ideas for activities, topics you would like to discuss, or suggestions for making the student community more engaging, I would be very happy to hear from you at mattia.tamiazzo@uia.no.

I am excited to get started!
