Hi everyone!
My name is Naser, and I’m happy to introduce myself as the new student council leader at the NORA Research School.
I am currently in the final year of my PhD at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL). My research focuses on safety engineering and data-driven models, with particular attention to at-risk groups in society. My work combines engineering analysis with risk, and decision-making perspectives, and is closely connected to real-world applications in the built environment.
My academic and professional background is international and interdisciplinary. I have studied and worked in different countries and research environments, and during my PhD I collaborated with both national and international partners. I was also a guest researcher at Lund University, where I worked closely with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
As a PhD candidate and an international researcher in Norway, I am familiar with both the opportunities and challenges of building academic and professional networks. In my role as student council leader, I aim to contribute to a supportive and active research community within NORA. My main goals are to:
- Support academic and social networking through activities such as workshops, seminars, and informal meetings
- Strengthen communication and collaboration between PhD candidates across Norwegian universities and industry, helping to connect the right PhD candidates with relevant projects and companies and reduce the gap between research and industry
- Create arenas for sharing experiences, research ideas, and practical knowledge
I hope to help make NORA an inclusive and engaging research environment where PhD candidates feel connected, supported, and encouraged to collaborate across disciplines.
I look forward to working together with all of you.
Best regards,
Naser
