Arendalsuka 2025: NORA hosts the first-ever AI Tent, uniting Norway’s AI research community

Arendal, August 11 – 15, 2025 — NORA, The Norwegian Artificial Intelligence Research Consortium, hosted and brought together the Norwegian AI research community in the AI tent (KI-teltet). Arendalsuka is the largest political gathering in Norway, held annually since 2012. There was strong interest in the AI Tent and the events organised by NORA’s partners, with the tent enjoying consistently good attendance throughout the week. The AI tent placed AI at the center stage and gave it a strong and visible presence at Arendalsuka, contributing to the ongoing public debate on AI.

A popular tent

During the week, NORA hosted 25 different events in the AI-tent, with more than 1,300 participants in total. All of NORA’s partners were present, which we are very proud of. As host of the AI tent, NORA also welcomed contributions from the Research Council of Norway (RCN), who held three events, as well as four Centres of Excellence (SFF) and Centres for Research-based Innovation (SFI); AI: Integreat – Norwegian Centre for Knowledge-driven Machine Learning, Visual Intelligence, Media Futures, and Digital Narrative. In addition, Nemonoor and SuperOffice Norge AS took the stage.

- NORA was founded on the belief that we achieve more when we collaborate, and I can’t think of a better way to demonstrate this than by gathering the NORA partners and key stakeholders under one AI roof. Based on the feedback and the number of attendees, the AI-tent was a huge success. AI will shape our future, and it’s important that the NORA partners are visible in the public debate, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities ahead. It was a joy to be part of and a great opportunity for me to connect with so many of you, says Michael Solvang, newly appointed CEO of NORA.

Something for everybody

There was a large variety in the events held from Sami outsiderhood or algorithmic equality? Hosted by the University of Tromsø and Sami University College, to AI - A game changer also for knowledge-based sustainability? with the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, and How to protect democracy when AI takes over? with the University of Oslo. The AI tent offered something for every interest and field of study. The events themselves also had a variety, from research-based talks to panel debates. With strong representation from academia, industry, and government, the events highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration in shaping the future of AI.

For those who could not attend the events, the events were streamed.

Networking and sosial aspect

Arendalsuka and the AI tent also served as a social hub for the Norwegian AI community. The AI tent became a popular place for networking and exchange, and the benches outside the tent were a popular meeting place for continuing discussions sparked by the events. The AI tent underscored NORA’s commitment to fostering increased collaboration across the AI community in Norway.

We would like to use thank all participants for making the AI tent at Arendalsuka 2025 a great success.
